Customs clearance is the process used by the relevant authorities to review goods entering or leaving a customs territory. For an international removal, the requirements depend on the origin, destination, route, items, ownership and use of the goods, and the traveller’s circumstances.
VANonsite can review the information supplied for a move and confirm whether customs-related coordination is available for that route. Any declaration work, document checks, representation or contact with third parties is included only when stated in the written proposal. The customer remains responsible for complete and accurate information.

A route-specific process
How the customs clearance process works
The customs clearance process starts before collection. Share the collection and delivery countries, full addresses, inventory or photographs, approximate volume, preferred dates and any documents already available.
We then review the route and the requested scope. If customs support is available, the written proposal identifies the activities VANonsite will perform, the information still required, known third-party steps and the charges we can confirm at that stage.

Documents we may need
Customs documents for personal effects and removals
The documents needed are route- and case-specific. Depending on the authorities and the move, the requested customs documents may include an inventory or packing list, identity and address evidence, transport details, proof connected with ownership or use of the goods, and forms or declarations required for that movement.
Do not rely on a generic checklist as confirmation that a document, relief or customs treatment applies. Send legible copies and consistent item descriptions, and disclose restricted, regulated or unusual goods before booking. We will identify the information required for the agreed scope, while the relevant authorities decide whether the submission is accepted.

Customs clearance costs and timing vary. The route, type and value of goods, available evidence, representation model, authority decisions, inspections, duties, taxes, storage, port or terminal charges and third-party fees can all affect the final amount and schedule.
Our written proposal separates the VANonsite scope from charges that are conditional, estimated, payable to an authority or third party, or not yet known. Duties, taxes, reliefs and exemptions are never assumed. If circumstances or the inventory change, the scope and price may need to be reviewed before the move continues.
Where available, customs coordination can be assessed together with transport, collection and delivery. This reduces duplicated route and inventory questions and gives you one written proposal for the activities VANonsite agrees to provide.

To request an assessment, send the origin and destination, your inventory or photographs, approximate volume, preferred dates, access details and any available customs documents. Mention items that may be restricted, regulated, high-value or difficult to describe.
